Senior Regulatory Advisor, Regulatory Response
Job no: V14816
Work type: Ongoing Full Time
Location: Any - Any location
Categories: Regulatory Operations
The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.
We have a full time opportunity for an ongoing Senior Regulatory Advisor in the Rapid Regulatory Response Unit (RRRU). We welcome all applications from any location where we have an Ahpra presence.
Ahpra’s Rapid Regulatory Response Unit (RRRU) is a newly established team working to bridge the gap between regulatory intelligence and response. The team focuses on gathering targeted information about emerging concerns to determine whether regulatory action is required. Where performance, conduct or advertising concerns relate to individual practitioners, the RRRU works to identify the right practitioner and supporting evidence to inform a risk based regulatory response.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Regulatory Advisor to lead the day-to-day work of a small team within this fast-paced and high-impact function. This is a rare opportunity to shape a new approach to regulatory response and contribute directly to public safety.
With a focus on Ahpra’s values to drive high performance, this role provides a point of escalation and technical direction and support to staff to enable performance of the team at the expected level, whilst providing operational support to the Operations Manager about regulatory activities. This role will present matters to relevant Boards and committees and guide consistent recommendations and decision making.
About you
You are a skilled regulatory professional with strong judgement and experience leading others through complex matters. You are confident interpreting legislation, assessing risk and supporting high-quality case management. You value collaboration, communicate clearly, and know how to drive performance while supporting staff wellbeing.
Your experience includes:
- Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and procedures within a regulatory or compliance environment, with sound judgment and high-level advisory capability.
- Strong investigative skills in managing sensitive and complex matters, including risk assessment and the application of statutory powers.
- Leadership capability demonstrated through team management, performance development, and fostering a results-driven culture.
- Highly developed analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills with the capacity to resolve complex issues independently.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including negotiation, consultation, and the ability to manage competing priorities under time pressure.
