The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) is the national agency responsible for administering the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (National Scheme) in partnership with 15 National Boards for the regulated health professions.

Ahpra’s overall purpose is to protect the public by regulating health practitioners efficiently and effectively in the public interest to facilitate access to safer healthcare for all the community.

This is a full-time permanent opportunity, based in our Melbourne office working a hybrid (2 office days) arrangement.

About the Role

As an IT Security Business Analyst, you'll be at the forefront of our cybersecurity initiatives, translating complex business and technical needs into clear, actionable solutions. You’ll take the lead on analysing, documenting, and communicating requirements, user stories, and supporting processes that shape the success of our security roadmap, including projects focusing on identity, role based access controls (RBAC), and Data loss prevention (DLP).

In this role, you'll work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to assess current security frameworks, uncover areas for improvement, and design practical solutions that boost efficiency and performance. You'll help drive strategic decisions by identifying issues, evaluating risks and benefits, and analysing the impact of proposed changes right down to cost estimates and potential savings.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure adherence of requirements, use cases and processes to legislation, internal policies and governance frameworks.
  • Assist in developing project rationale and perform scoping assessments to determine feasibility of security projects
  • Support the development of IT security project or major change estimates & financial models (costs, savings, revenue opportunities, investment horizon, etc).
  • Develop comprehensive requirement specifications that will assist in determining the estimate of cost, time, and resources to deploy solutions.

About you

You bring a wealth of expertise in cybersecurity, with working knowledge of leading frameworks and compliance standards such as MITRE ATT&CK and NIST. You’re well-versed in delivering outcomes across various project lifecycle methodologies, confidently navigating both Agile and Waterfall environments. Your familiarity with government standards, particularly NIST CSF 2.0 and the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM), positions you as a trusted advisor on information assurance in complex, high stakes settings.

Having contributed to large-scale ICT initiatives, you’re experienced to manage multifaceted challenges and cross-functional collaboration. Your expert-level understanding of web and application security standards ensures the solutions you help build are not only effective, but resilient and future ready. You are a self-starter who will ensure all information required to support projects is understood and documented.

If you’re passionate about security, analytical by nature, and love turning challenges into streamlined outcomes, this is your chance to make a big impact at Ahpra.
