Senior Policy and Project Officer, Paramedicine

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered. 

The Senior Policy and Project Officer supports the Paramedicine Board of Australia and its Committees by researching and developing registration standards, professional codes, standards, guidelines, and policy that meet the National Board’s requirements, undertaking stakeholder consultation as required.  A key focus of the role is to oversee the National Board’s project portfolio related to regulation of the paramedicine profession and ensure that the project deliverables are completed on time and within budget.  This requires coordination of internal and external resources relevant to the National Board project portfolio.   

This is a full time, fixed term (12 month) role, with a preferred location of Melbourne

In this role you will: 

  • Develop implementation plans and materials to support new or revised policies, standards, or guidelines, ensuring national consistency and stakeholder understanding.
  • Coordinate or contribute to the development and review of registration standards, codes, guidelines, and policies aligned with the National Law and regulatory best practices, including inter-professional education and collaborative practice.
  • Prepare or support the creation of concept papers and business cases for consideration by the Paramedicine Board for future projects or research activities 
  • Participate in or develop project planning and implementation to ensure that registration standards, codes, guidelines, and policy are developed within relevant time frames and funding, and 
  • Facilitate meetings to ensure all project stakeholders and staff are informed of project process and relevant developments.

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of expertise  
  • Experience working as a paramedic or in a relevant healthcare role 
  • Previous experience working in the paramedicine education sector 
  • Knowledge and understanding of scheduled medicines 
  • Considerable experience in the development of health profession policy advice, ideally relating to health practitioner regulation 
  • Sound understanding of project management methodology 
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills
