The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with the 15 National Boards to implement the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (the National Scheme) for health practitioners. Our role is to protect the public by ensuring that only practitioners who are suitably qualified and fit to practise safely are registered.

About the role

This is a 6 month fixed term contract.

As part of the Research, Evaluation and Insights Team (REIT) within the Health Workforce Directorate, the Senior Research and Evaluation Officer will play a key role in leading evaluation and research projects that support regulatory policy and decision making.

This role is responsible for the design, coordination, and delivery of projects that build a contemporary evidence base for the regulation of health practitioners. You will apply your research and evaluation expertise to generate insights, analyse risk, and translate findings into practical outcomes that support Ahpra’s work in protecting the public.

In this role you will

  • Lead and conduct research and evaluation projects, from study design through to dissemination of findings
  • Apply qualitative and quantitative methods, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation
  • Prepare research ethics proposals, reports, meeting papers, publications, and presentations
  • Interrogate administrative databases to identify factors associated with risks to the public
  • Communicate research findings clearly to a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage projects end-to-end, including planning, risk management, and timely delivery

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A relevant qualification in health, allied health, public health, social science or social research (or equivalent experience)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and leading evaluation or research projects
  • Strong qualitative research skills, with quantitative experience highly regarded
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor outputs for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build constructive relationships across internal teams and external partners
  • Strong personal drive, professionalism, and sound judgement
