The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for health practitioners. The scheme exists to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge required to provide safe care are registered.
The Board Support Officer (BSO) plays a key role in supporting effective governance across the National Scheme. Working within the National Regulatory Governance team, the role provides high‑quality secretariat, governance and administrative support to two National Boards, ensuring their meetings, decisions and documentation are managed in a professional, accurate and timely manner.
This is a full‑time, permanent position based in our Melbourne office.
In this role, you will work closely with Board members, Executive Officers and Policy & Project Officers, and be a trusted point of contact supporting effective decision‑making and smooth day‑to‑day Board operations. Manage competing priorities in a collaborative environment and contribute to strong governance practices in line with Ahpra’s legislative and policy requirements. Interstate travel is required from time to time to support Board meetings and events.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating end‑to‑end Board and committee meetings, including agendas, papers, logistics, technology and post‑meeting. follow‑up.
- Attending meetings, accurately recording decisions and actions, and preparing clear, timely and high‑quality minutes and outcomes.
- Managing Board and committee correspondence, records and documentation in line with governance, naming and filing conventions
- Building strong, professional relationships and acting as a key point of contact for Board members and internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting governance frameworks, including maintaining Terms of Reference, review schedules and Board websites.
- Working collaboratively as part of the wider BSO network, sharing knowledge and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

You will demonstrate:
- Strong organisational skills, exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proven experience providing secretariat or administrative support in a complex, fast‑paced environment (experience supporting boards or committees is highly regarded).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, accurate and well‑structured meeting records and correspondence.
- Well‑developed stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust, negotiate competing priorities and use influence to support effective outcomes.
- Sound judgement and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to follow instructions, apply governance processes and escalate issues appropriately.
- Confidence using contemporary technology platforms, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint (experience with Microsoft Forms and Diligent is desirable but not essential).
- A positive learning mindset, with the ability to quickly build knowledge, align with established processes and share knowledge within a collaborative team environment.
