Senior Communications Advisor

Job no: V15180
Work type: Fixed Term Full Time
Location: Multiple locations
Categories: Communications and Media

Every day at the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra), we work to strengthen public trust and confidence in Australia's health practitioners and improve access to safe, high-quality healthcare.

Working in partnership with 15 National Boards, we are delivering the National Scheme Strategy 2031 to enhance public safety, foster cultural safety, strengthen community confidence, and support a sustainable health workforce for the future.

Within the broader Strategic Communications team, our Internal Communication and Engagement function plays a critical role in connecting our people to our purpose, shaping our culture, and building connections across our national organisation. We partner with leaders and experts from across Ahpra to deliver clear, meaningful and engaging communications that inform, connect and inspire our people.

As our team continues to evolve, this role is critical in shaping the future of internal communications at Ahpra. Lead the development and delivery of a contemporary internal communications and engagement strategy through a fresh, people-centred and data-driven approach to how we communicate with our people.

About the role

This is an exciting fixed-term opportunity (12 month contract) for an experienced internal communications professional who enjoys problem-solving, storytelling and relationship building to deliver meaningful and inspiring internal communications.

As Senior Communications Advisor, you will play a key role in shaping and maturing Ahpra's internal communications function. Drawing on your expertise, you’ll develop communication strategies, plans and frameworks that support strategic organisational priorities, strengthen employee engagement and enhance the employee experience.

Working as part of a motivated, knowledgeable and collaborative Strategic Communications team, you will partner closely with leaders across Ahpra as a trusted advisor to translate strategy into clear, authentic and engaging communications.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys diversity, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You will build strong relationships, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and help drive a contemporary, audience-focused approach to internal communications and engagement.

If you're ready to make a meaningful impact on employee experiences at an organisation with a vital public purpose, we'd love to hear from you.

What you will bring

We are looking for a strategic communicator who leads through ambiguity and sees opportunity where others see complexity.

To succeed in this role, you will draw on experience in:

  • Delivering internal communication strategies that connect people to organisational priorities and drive engagement.
  • Translating strategy, complexity and change into clear, compelling and authentic stories.
  • Building trusted partnerships with leaders and stakeholders to influence outcomes and provide valued advice.
  • Engaging storytelling and content production across a range of channels that create consistent and engaging experiences.
  • Identifying organisational and reputational risks and navigating sensitive issues with sound judgement and a balanced perspective.
  • Bringing together diverse viewpoints to develop practical, people-centred communication solutions.
  • Supporting and developing others while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
