Ahpra, as the health practitioner regulator, aims to make patient safety the norm for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples by ensuring registered health practitioners are practising their profession in a culturally safe way. 

This role will be supported in our Melbourne or Canberra offices in a full time, ongoing capacity.

Ahpra requires all employees to comply with Ahpra policies, including the Flexible working policy.   

About the Role 

This role reports directly to Policy Manager, Nursing and Midwifery and will work collaboratively with CATSINaM with a key focus to provide professional advisory services, project coordination and secretariat support to several working groups and reform projects. Having a deep understanding of the National Scheme, and having lived experience as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person/s and culturally safe practice is fundamental.

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

You will be an experienced, policy officer who has an excellent understanding of governance and regulation in the public interest. Communication and strong interpersonal skills will be professional and collaborative as you manage and engage key stakeholders internally and externally in this role. You embody our values of Integrity, Respect, Collaboration and Achievement. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of cultural safety
  • Experienced managing programs of work and/or projects relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
  • Relevant experience in health or public policy or similar
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, motivate others and inspire change
  • Well-developed problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
