The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.
This is a fixed-term full time opportunity until Aug 2026 based in Melbourne working a hybrid (2 office days) arrangement.
About the role
Reporting to the Senior Legal Advisor, the Lawyer assists the Corporate Legal team in providing high quality legal advice in the areas of Corporate Law and governance. The Lawyer will support the Corporate Legal Unit by working collaboratively across all areas of corporate legal practice including to provide legal advice and recommendations to address and resolve issues in respect of commercial, contract, procurement, privacy and public interest disclosure matters, facilities and leasing, intellectual property rights and protection and delegations and authorisations.. The individual in this position will work under supervision of senior team members. This role also assists in engaging with stakeholders as well as completing accurate and timely reports.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing legal advice regarding contracts and related issues (e.g. procurement, privacy, IP);
- Working with senior members of the Corporate Legal team to provide advice on all legal areas within the team’s scope, including contracts, privacy, disputes, corporate governance, and delegations; and
- Supporting Ahpra and the National Boards to manage legal, policy and procedural issues with reference to the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009 as enacted in each State and Territory.
As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:
- Degree in law (LLB/JD)
- Current practising certificate (restricted or unrestricted) issued by an Australian State or Territory authority
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate and liaise with all stakeholders
- Ability to prioritise work and perform well under pressure
- Proficiency in a range of applications including Microsoft Office and experience using electronic databases
- Demonstrated ability to show initiative and work independently when required
