The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered. 

The Financial Reporting & Analysis (FR&A) team is the central point of contact for finance-related services across Ahpra. We play a key role in supporting the organisation’s financial sustainability by leading budgeting and forecasting processes, delivering strategic financial analysis and advice, and monitoring the financial performance of projects and operations. Our team is committed to providing clear, accurate, and actionable financial insights that enable informed decision-making and drive operational effectiveness across the organisation.

We have a 12 month, full time opportunity for a proactive and detail-oriented Management Accountant to join our Financial Reporting and Analysis team in our Brisbane or Melbourne Ahpra locations.

In this role, you will play a key part in supporting Ahpra Directorates and National Boards by preparing and analysing financial data to deliver meaningful insights. You’ll drive process improvement, standardisation, and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy across the team. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, you’ll bring initiative and strategic thinking to strengthen financial reporting and contribute to the broader success of the finance function.

As a Management Accountant at Ahpra, you will:

  • Support the Finance Business Partner in preparing monthly financial reports, including variance analysis and executive commentary for the allocated Directorate.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of financial dashboards and reporting tools, and assist with preparing scheduled reports for stakeholders.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting processes across directorates and cost centres.
  • Perform month-end processing tasks, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial processes, reporting accuracy, and stakeholder value.
  • Provide financial and accounting support to the Senior Finance Business Partner as required.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and team members to support the achievement of Directorate-specific financial objectives.
  • Maintain integrity and accountability in all financial activities, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and deadlines while maintaining high performance and resilience under pressure.
  • Apply analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to interpret financial data and support decision-making.

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, or a related discipline. CPA or CA qualification (or working towards) is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in management accounting, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of month-end processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong capability in data visualisation and reporting tools such as Power BI is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (e.g. Unit4) and/or planning tools such as Anaplan is desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare executive-level commentary.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in teams and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
