The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

We are looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst to join our team on a full time permanent basis, who could be located in any Ahpra office.

The Business Intelligence Analyst sits within Information and Decision Enablement team, who are responsible for enabling high‑quality, trusted data across Ahpra. Working closely with the Manager Business Intelligence, collaborating with Data Engineering, and engaging directly with business leaders, National Boards and regulatory stakeholders.

This role contributes to the delivery of high‑quality dashboards, reports and data extracts used internally and by external partners such as Health Ministers, the Office of the Health Ombudsman (Qld), and the Health Professional Councils Authority (NSW). You will operate in a highly regulated environment, working with large, sensitive datasets that require strong governance, accuracy and attention to detail.

In this role you will:

  • Deliver reporting and insights using Power BI, SSRS, SQL Server Management Studio and Visual Studio
  • Design, build and maintain dashboards, data extracts and complex SQL/DAX solutions
  • Lead end‑to‑end BI development including requirements gathering, data analysis and quality checks
  • Work with large point‑in‑time datasets from Data Lakes and Datamarts to ensure accuracy and reliability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing reports, providing timely user support
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and manage source code through TFS or GitHub
  • Manage report subscriptions, scheduling, permissions and access to BI tools and portals
  • Partner with stakeholders and Data Engineering to translate requirements, advise on data needs and support BI improvement initiatives

As the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in BI, reporting or data analytics roles, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications in IT, data, analytics or a related field
  • Advanced Power BI and SQL Server Management Studio expertise, including complex DAX, query optimisation and end‑to‑end report/dashboard development
  • Proven experience working with sensitive, high‑volume and regulated datasets, along with strong knowledge of Data Lakes, Datamarts and point‑in‑time data structures
  • Hands‑on experience with SSRS (2016+), Visual Studio, TFS/GitHub and CI/CD pipelines, including report migration and lifecycle management
  • Strong organisational and workload‑management skills, with the capacity to prioritise competing deadlines and high volumes of reporting requests
  • Clear and adaptive communication skills, able to translate complex data or technical detail into meaningful insights for non‑technical stakeholders
  • Background in regulatory, compliance or government environments (highly regarded)
  • Confidence working both independently and collaboratively, contributing effectively within a team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability, paired with a willingness to seek support or escalate issues when needed
