The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered. 

This is a full time, fixed term position for up to 12 months, and can be located in any Ahpra office.

The Policy and Project Officer supports the Psychology Board of Australia by contributing to the development, review and implementation of registration standards, professional codes, guidelines and policy. Working within Ahpra’s Corporate Affairs and Regulatory Governance team, the role involves researching regulatory issues, coordinating stakeholder consultation, preparing Board papers and supporting key projects, including Supervisor Training Programs, the National Psychology Exam and redesigning the higher‑education pathway. This role works closely with National Board members and Ahpra colleagues to ensure consistent, contemporary and effective regulation under the National Scheme.

In this role you will

  • Support the development, review and implementation of registration standards, codes, guidelines and policies.
  • Prepare high‑quality policy papers, briefings and correspondence for the Psychology Board and Executive Officer.
  • Undertake research, stakeholder consultation and analysis to inform policy recommendations.
  • Support key regulatory projects such as Supervisor Training Programs, the National Psychology Exam and higher education pathway redesign work.
  • Provide accurate regulatory, governance and procedural advice to Board members and Ahpra staff.
  • Respond to public enquiries regarding National Board policies and requirements.
  • Contribute to improvements in policy and governance processes.

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

  • A relevant degree in psychology, health policy, research or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience interpreting legislation, policy and procedural requirements in a regulatory or similar environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, stakeholder‑management and collaborative skills.
  • Advanced written communication skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear, plain‑language advice.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess issues, risks and evidence.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Awareness and understanding of the National Scheme and National Law.
