The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Reporting to the Senior People and Culture Business Partner, the People and Culture Business Partner plays a critical role in partnering with leaders and employees across the organisation to deliver pragmatic, high‑quality people advice across the employee lifecycle.

We have a full-time opportunity for the right person to join our team in the Melbourne Ahpra office.

Operating within a fast‑paced and evolving environment, you will provide trusted guidance on a broad range of people matters, with a strong focus on complex case management including performance, conduct, health support and employee relations matters. Working closely with stakeholders to build capability and accountability, supporting them to own and manage people outcomes with confidence.

As part of a collaborative business partnering team, this role contributes to the delivery of Ahpra’s People Strategy and organisational priorities through adaptable, solution‑focused and contemporary practices. Success in this role relies on your ability to balance professionalism with approachability, influence with pragmatism, and stakeholder partnership with clear boundaries.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders and employees to provide pragmatic, high‑quality advice across the employee lifecycle, aligned with legislation, enterprise agreements, policies and Ahpra values.
  • Manage complex HR and employee relations matters, including performance, conduct, health support plans, non‑work related illness, grievances and disciplinary processes.
  • Provide advice and support in relation to Fair Work Commission matters and claims as required.
  • Conduct interviews as part of the panel, as required
  • Coach and influence leaders to build capability and accountability in managing people matters.
  • Support organisational change activities and operate effectively within a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
  • Work collaboratively across People and Culture functions, utilising HRIS systems and people data to support effective outcomes and continuous improvement.

As the ideal candidate, you bring demonstrated experience operating as a trusted HR business partner in complex and fast‑moving environments. You are confident managing challenging and sensitive matters, while maintaining a calm, professional and solutions‑focused approach.

You will also bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in HR business partnering, with strong stakeholder engagement in complex environments.
  • Exposure to Fair Work Commission matters, enterprise agreement interpretation and contemporary employment legislation.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to gain commitment and drive shared accountability.
  • Experience supporting health-related cases, including health support plans and non‑work related illness presentations.
  • Agility, resilience and sound judgement in environments with high levels of change.
  • A collaborative, team‑based approach, professional presence and the confidence to provide clear, balanced and solution‑focused advice.
